los angeles

I was in LA this past weekend and it was wonderful, as always. I love that city. The sun, the hiking, the views, the food – whats not to love?

We got in on Friday afternoon and went straight to Umami Burger (more to come on that) – delicious!

Saturday was the Celiac Disease Foundation Conference and show – a full day of gluten-free samples! We (French Meadow) sampled our gluten-free tortillas and brownies – always a huge hit! :)

Sunday we left Universal City and ventured into LA before heading to my cousins for Mexican food and S’muffins! (When in LA, definitely try S’muffins, they are kind of life-changing.)

Monday started off with a hike at Runyon Canyon;

coffee and scones with Lynn (definitely a highlight!);

and some brown rice sushi for lunch. Interestingly enough, whenever I’ve asked for brown rice sushi elsewhere, they tell me it’s not possible. I’m here to say it can be done. :) Here is the proof:

On our last day, Tuesday, we woke up to rain so our planned morning hike was cancelled and replaced with breakfast. I can’t complain too much. ;)

Whew – what a weekend. Normal life resumes today!

    I actually prefer brown rice sushi – it’s so chewy and delicious, and the nutty flavor is awesome! Publix actually makes brown rice sushi now, and the veggie roll is pretty awesome!

      That is so true – our local stores make sushi with brown rice but whenever I ask for it in restaurants they tell me it isn’t possible!

    Yay for brown rice sushi! Seriously so difficult to find places that offer that option. :(
    Ps, if you ever go back to LA, you’ve got to try M Cafe!! By far the best health foodie cafe I’ve ever been to! (There’s one in Santa Monica)
    Glad you had a good time.

    ps. I had some questions about your consulting business. I’m looking to start my own practice and was hoping for some advice!! Can you shoot me an email when you get the chance? Curious about how you started, when you started, if you have another job, how you get clients, etc. Thanks!!

    I hate it when they look at me like I am an alien when I ask for brown rice sushi. It can obviously be done. I can find it some places, but not others. Sadly, my favorite place does not have it .

    I can’t wait to hear about your visit to Umami Burger. My boyfriend and I have seen it featured on Food Network a few times and are both dying to get out to LA and try it.
