review: journey bars {and giveaway}

I’ve been doing fewer and fewer product reviews, but sometimes I come across something, or something comes across my inbox and I’ve just got to try it – and subsequently – share it with you all!

I’m definitely a savory/salty snacker and when the afternoon rolls around, its not sweets that I’m craving. Truthfully, I usually want cheese but I definitely don’t bring cheese to work with me. (That would NOT be a good idea). Ideally I’ll have something a little salty and hopefully crunchy.

Journey Bars are essentially a savory “granola/nutrition” bar with flavors like Coconut Curry, Pizza Marinara, Rosemary, Parmesan Romano and Hickory BBQ. They are made with grains like oats, buckwheat, flax, amaranth, and definitely fit the bill for a delicious, crunchy, savory and healthy afternoon snack.

You can currently find them at these retailers in your area or buy them online. They are also available on amazon!

  • made with whole grains
  • simple ingredient list
  • savory flavor without too much salt
  • nutrition stats: 200 calories, 8 grams fat, 4 grams fiber, 6 grams protein
  • no GMO’s (genetically modified organisms)

  • there was a bit more protein in them, although I know that would affect the flavor/taste (in a perfect world!)
  • they were in thinner pieces (I guess more like crackers) but I guess that defeats the purpose of a “bar” :)

    Ah, I have been looking for a savory bar everywhere! In the middle of long rides, all I can think is, I don’t want this stupid cookie, I want some bacon! My favorite snack is fancy aged cheddars from the local cheese makers. Packed with flavor!

    i love love love the white bean mediterranean hummus from TJ’s with some pita crisps or raw veggies! :)

    Just found your blog yesterday. Started my commitment to a healthy lifestyle three weeks ago, so my snacks might not be as nutritious as some, but they’re much better than the foods they’ve replaced! :) Pretzels, walnuts, almonds, peanuts, NutThins (smokehouse flavor), teriyaki beef jerky and cheese sticks.

    Hummus is definitely up there for me, but lately it’s been these crunchy quinoa bars I found at a local Latin grocer. They only have quinoa, sesame seeds, and date syrup as a binder. Not sweet at all, just nutty and delicious.

    My favorite savory snack is homemade black bean dip:

    can of black beans drained and rinsed, 3 tbsp water, seasoning of choice (mine is garlic, salt, pepper), and I occasionally throw in a jalepeno.

    Oh man, those look so good- right up my alley (I’m with you on the salty/savory thing)! I think we all know what my favorite savory snack is…crackers topped with something that starts with “TJ’s” and ends with…”spinach and kale Greek yogurt dip”.
