daily eats: 2.09.12

Wow, it has been a really busy week! I’m glad that I’ve been busy, because to be honest, things have been a little slow lately, but I am feeling the effects today and am so glad the weekend is here (and that I’m not working this weekend).

I had an early wake-up call and a full day yesterday. I’ve been working on a Social Media Portfolio this week so my early mornings and evenings have been filled with that.

Coffee: Lots of coffee + coconut creamer. We just picked up the new Starbucks Blonde Roast – like it so far!

Breakfast: 2 eggs + 1 slice sprouted toast + earth balance.

I was invited to a Blogger Fitness Event put on by Jamba Juice to try out some of the newest fitness trends yesterday. I wasn’t expecting to actually work out that much, but oh did we work it! It was a really fun day, there were tons of new fitness classes that we were able to try out, along with some of Jamba Juice’s new smoothies and oatmeal bowls.

I thought I would categorize and tell you about the various classes I tried by a ranking of how awkward I looked while doing them.

8. Jump Rope Cardio – I am pretty good at jumping rope. It is all I did from about 1st-4th grade so I’ve had my fair share of practice.

7. Pop Physique (Ballet Barre) – this class was all about small movements and it slightly reminded me of pilates/old-school mat work ala Jane Fonda.

6. ViPR Training – this class was an aerobics/strength class done with a 4 foot weighted tube – my arms were shaking but I was able to follow along.

5. SurfSET – surfing inspired movements done on a wobbly surf board. It required lots of stabilizing muscles and now I want to try surfing! I kind of look like a natural, right?

4. Hoopnotica (Hula Hoop) – I was NOT looking forward to this class, but after a few falls of the hoola hoop, I got into a rhythm and it was pretty fun. Swinging the hoop with your arms is hard work.

3. Cardio Carnivale (Hip Hop/Afro Caribbean Dance) – The instructor was a professional dancer. I am not. But I had a blast trying and I couldn’t see myself in the mirror so I was shaking away with abandon! (Out of all three dance classes, I *think* I did the best on this one).

2. Bollywood Aerobics – I am pretty much obsessed with India so I LOVED this class. I also have a DVD and I can now bollywood dance all. the. time. I totally looked foolish, but I think I’ll improve quickly. :)

1. Juicy Athletic Moves (Samba-ish Dancing) – Words cannot even describe my awkwardness.

I sipped on some of the Berry UpBEET Smoothie in between classes, a blend of strawberries, blueberries, mixed berry juice, red vegetable juice (carrots, beets, broccoli, spinach, kale, lettuce), mangos, ice. I liked it – it wasn’t overly sweet and someone suggested that getting it without the fruit juice makes it even better so I’ll definitely try that next time. I’m glad a mainstream smoothie shop has jumped on the vegetables in juice and smoothies train!

Lunch: Was from a local food truck – I had a pesto chicken wrap with a beet salad. The food was great – I ate the wrap sans tortilla, mainly because I was paranoid about getting pesto in my teeth. :)

Then, as if my day hadn’t been interesting enough, it got really interesting. I had to run by a mall to pick up a shirt and I scraped the front of the car on a cement pillar in the parking garage. I knew my husband would freak out so I went right from the mall to the car wash to have them fix it. “Can you make that disappear so my husband doesn’t know it happened?” were my exact words.

While they were working on the car I went to get a coffee (theme of the week) and then ran into Kristin Cavallari. When I say ran into, I mean, I saw her as she was also getting her car washed. Stars, they’re just like us!

And finally, some cheese and crackers while I was making dinner.

Dinner:  Old-school Chicken, Broccoli & Brown Rice Casserole. I had two small bowls.

Dessert was a serving of Cake Batter Ice Cream (disappointing)  and I’m ready to crash – enjoy your weekend! Fun plans?

daily eats: 12.14.11

Hi Friends!

The last few daily eats posts have had some sort of theme, but I’ve got nothing for you this time! Just a normal, old day. :)

I started out the day with some green tea. Even though I just picked up a new coffee pot (I broke mine last week) I might be on a tea kick. I love the flavor of coffee, but when I had it the other day, I just didn’t feel  as clean(?) as I do with tea. More experiments coming on this front.

Breakfast: needed to be light since it was 8am and I had a workout scheduled for 10:30 so I had a slice of sprouted bread (French Meadow) with one organic egg.

Workout: This was our second time doing the Lunch Crunch workouts by Open Sky Fitness and they are TOUGH! In a really good way. :) It is a quick-moving circuit of exercises and drills and an intense workout outside at the La Brea Tar Pits Park –  I love it!

(I went a little darker with my hair, what do you think?)

Lunch: Greek Salad (cucumber + tomato + red onion + olives + goat feta cheese + olive oil +salt + pepper) with a side of Kale & White Bean Soup.

After my first course of soup and salad I decided I was still hungry so moved onto 1/2 sprouted tortilla + tuna salad (leftover from the Tasters lunch) + sprinkle of cheese + arugula – all baked in the oven. It was just ok.

Snack: Last night I re-stocked my dried fruit stash, so I snacked on some dried mango + pineapple for an afternoon snack.

Then I was hungry again (thanks to my light breakfast and hard workout) so I had a little wine, cheese and proscuitto! :)

Dinner: We haven’t found a good burger joint in our new neighborhood (haven’t even gone out for burgers since we moved here!) so we decided to try out The Counter. It is a build-your-own burger bar…which was much harder to do than I thought!

Ultimately I chose beef + pepperjack + tomato + fried onions + lettuce + pickles all on an english muffin. Oh, and a combination of regular and sweet potato fries hiding in the back. The burger was great, but I’m not sure how I feel about the whole “choosing your own” which is surprising, because normally I love that kind of stuff! Maybe I’ll be more adventurous next time.

Needless to say, it was a good burger.

The night was finished off with some of my favorite chocolate and relaxing with the Taster – perfection!

Enjoy your Thursday!

daily eats: 8.16.11

Writing out the date 8.16.11 made me immediately think of the day I’m getting married: 9.17.11!! Coming up sooo quickly! I swear the weeks are going by twice as fast as normal!

6:00 am: Cursing my alarm clock, but finally roll out of bed and downstairs to the workout room – 40 minute treadmill workout (3.5 miles).

8:00 am: Standard coffee + coconut creamer. :) As you can see, it always makes me really happy. I’m all about the little things…

Breakfast: Overnight oats! This was my first time ever trying overnight oats, but I loved that I could prep everything the night before. I combined 1 cup 2% Greek Yogurt + 1/4 cup steel cut oats + 1/2 cup milk in a tupperware and stirred it until combined. I topped it with frozen raspberries and took the whole thing to work. Not pretty to look at, but filling and delicious – I’m a fan! Have you had overnight oats before? What is your favorite combo?

Lunch: Caribou Coffee’s new grilled gouda turkey pesto sandwich + green beans + green tea. I’ve been looking forward to trying these new Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, plus I had a coupon to use. I knew it would be lacking in veggies so I brought along some green beans from home to round out the meal.

Unfortunately the grilled cheese was a little disappointing. The flavor was great, but it was a bit soggy, 1/4 of the sandwich didn’t have any pesto on it and it wasn’t very filling for the amount of calories (510 calories, 24 grams of fat, 29 grams of protein). Kind of a bummer.

Snack 1: apple + almond maple butter (Almost had a panic attack when I realized I had finished my peanut butter jar the day before, but thankfully I had a stash in my drawer! You just never know when you are going to be desperately needing some nut butter. ;) )

Snack 2: minnesota sushi (ham + pickle + cream cheese) – I think the last time I had this it was on the blog too! Hopefully you don’t think I eat it all the time…hehe.

6:30 pm: When we arrived home I desperately wanted to go out for a walk but the sky turned dark and thunder and rain followed shortly. Turns out it was good we didn’t head out!

Dinner: I didn’t really have anything planned (the horror!)…so we went with my standard meal as of late (seriously, I probably have had 6 of them a week) of a Sprouted Tortilla Pizza with marinara + arugula + mozzarella + sriracha for dipping and broccoli on the side.

The pizzas have pretty impressive stats (300 calories, 8.5 grams of fat, 18 grams of protein and 7 grams of fiber) – and I don’t feel at all bad for eating two! :) But mostly they taste great and are really easy to throw together.

And before I knew it, my yoga bag was packed, my lunch was made and Tuesday was over…how was your Tuesday?

I would love something new from LuLulemon!
Today I am smiling because I saw my friend and her newborn baby. There is nothing better thank holding a new baby, their sweet smell, and the little coos. To see my friend so happy with her new daughter is a true blessing!
