lately i’ve been… (november 2014)

celebrating Richie’s birthday at Commissary. Roy Choi has a way with vegetables (sort of the theme of Commissary) and sauces. Each dish came out with an incredibly complex – and insane – sauce. And Richie had a gin & beet juice drink.

finally getting a cast-iron pan. Now we have an insanely heavy pan that needs to be constantly moved from the stove-top to the counter, back to the oven…oy.

I already mentioned the Hello Kitty Con Party, but this picture was too funny not to share.

obsessing over squash in general.

having my parents in town! It was a quick weekend, but it was so nice to see them. I <3 them!

still reading Steve Jobs * (it’s taking me a while) and The Thank You Economy*. I loved Gary Vaynerchuk’s Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World * and while The Thank You Economy isn’t as focused on social media, it’s full of great ways to humanize brands.

having dinner at the Church Key, a modern american dim sum restaurant. Imagine a restaurant with an extremely enticing menu, and THEN a dim sum cart visits the table frequently to tempt you with little bites …

watching (and loving) all of the fall shows. We are 65 at heart and like CSI, NCIS, etc. What are you watching?

Lately I' ve Been | anutritionisteats.com

visiting Stir Market, a “modern California take on the classic European food hall experience” … so essentially they have a small menu/deli selections, coffee bar and high-quality food and wine to purchase. I was in heaven.

getting ready to move this weekend. Our Repax boxes (Reusable, Green Moving Crates) were delivered last night and now we need to fill them before Saturday!

What have YOU been up to lately?

lately i’ve been…(october 2014)

(New format, I got sick of the roman numerals!)

testing out some quinoa casserole recipes. It’s pretty delicious work and I’m close to a recipe worth sharing!

speaking of work…REALLY busy! November is a crazy month work-wise, with a lot of projects due, so posts may be a bit infrequent until things quiet down.

taking a short trip to Minneapolis. It was SO nice to be back in Minneapolis, but the trips always go too fast and there’s never enough time to see everyone we want to.

seeing Kings of Leon at the Hollywood Bowl. It was a GREAT show and Chris Martin made an appearance! (I was looking for Jennifer, she had to have been there, right?)

Skinny Game Day Snacks | anutritionisteats.com

sharing some healthy game day suggestions + snacks for fitnet, check it out!

obsessed with our blendtec! Green juices or smoothies are happening on a daily basis and I’m a happy camper.

visiting Washington DC. Richie’s cousin got married so we spent a few days in DC, touring, eating and spending time with family. I want to go back!

testing out more slow cooker recipes…I hope you’re ready for them!

spending a day at Laguna Beach. The sun was hot and the water was frigid and we finished the day with pizza on the beach! (Side note: all of the tweens and teens were wearing brazilian bikinis…I’m not ok with that!)

loving my new logo! I had (the SO-very talented) Holly create it for me, what do you think?

getting REALLY excited for a weekend at home, with minimal plans.

what have you been up to lately?!

obsessed with babycakes. Need to buy the cookbook* and start making the goodies myself.

 Lately I 've Been | anutritionisteats.com

seeing Spoon at the Hollywood Forever cemetery.

listening to podcasts. Freakonomics is my current fave!

Lately I' ve Been | anutritionisteats.com

eating fancy toast at Go Get Em Tiger. LOVE!

creating a learnist board all about healthy snacking. If you need some snack inspiration, check it out!

getting out the slow cooker to work on some recipes! Fall is just around the corner and I’m so ready for some comforting food from the crockpot. (Side note: slow cooker or crockpot, which term do you use?)

…and making beans in the slow cooker! So easy.

having my mom in town. SO FUN! We ate well, spent lots of time with family and took in SCRATCH (featuring graffiti and tattoo artists) at the El Segundo Museum of Art. I highly recommend it!

still working on a healthy pancake recipe…it has not been easy!

eating hot dogs at the brewers vs dodgers game.

reading French Women Don’t Get Fat Cookbook* and The Pomegranate King*. I enjoyed the philosophy of the French Women Don’t Get Fat Cookbook, but with the exception of a few, I felt like the recipes don’t necessarily fit with my lifestyle. The Pomegranate King is a book of linked essays on “love, grief, and identity” with an underlying theme of food. I loved it!

shooting a movie promo for a friend’s campaign…essentially lots proof that I’m THE most awkward person on the planet. (I’ll post the link as soon as it’s available so you can laugh at me!)

listening to lana del ray’s ultraviolence. I’m totally anti-violence, but I love her music. Also listening to (and loving) PHOX.

What you’ve been up to lately?! (My comments are functioning, I’m so excited!)

updating my media page! Some recent (exciting) features: Today (.com), Fitness Magazine (.com), and Good Housekeeping (.com)!

visiting The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills. Some good friends had given us a gift card and we recently went in for a visit and left with some really great wine, delicious cheese and an amazingly chewy loaf of bread. Total last meal-worthy.

stitch fixing: My second “fix” was a total bust, but my third had one item (still not thrilled about that!) that I liked and took to instagram to decide, which ended up being really fun, I loved hearing your opinions. I just got my most recent box this week and I really liked three of the pieces – the jeans were too small, but still trying to decide on these two*…help!  (Sign up here if you’re interested in trying it out (affiliate)) *SO awkward and yes, black is my favorite color. :)

having brunch at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and seeing part of the Mad Men crew…I had to try not to stare. (Joan! Roger! Harry! Stan!)

Healthy Popsicles | A Nutritionist Eats

writing a post for caringbridge.org, all about healthier homemade popsicles.

hosting a greek dinner party! We made lamb burgers (stuffed into pita bread and grilled), traditional greek salad, roasted rosemary potatoes and a slew of greek spreads: tzatziki, babaganoush and skordalia served with grilled bread and pita. Galaktoboureko for dessert!

Sephora Favorites | A Nutritionist Eats

visiting Sephora. (post mimosa-brunch, which was really not a wise decision) But I found a few things that I LOVE! Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation (so light and feels SO good, I think it makes my skin glow?!) | Josie Maran Argan Matchmaker Powder (light with SPF!) | Josie Maran Argan Creamy Concealer

reading Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea* – an easy, funny read. I think I liked Mindy Kaling’s better, but it was plenty amusing. (*affiliate)

breakfastburrito

wanting these breakfast burritos. OMG. (Image via Foodologie) I can’t have them with eggs, but even without I think they’d be delicious.
