the newest in natural food: expo west

Last weekend was the annual Natural Products Expo West show in Anaheim. This is my 5th year attending and I’ve always loved going! Walking the show is so much more laid back compared to the first three years when I was planning the show – such a different experience.

Here are some of my favorites new food/beverage finds from the weekend:

Hooray Pureed Vegetables: perfect for adding into mac & cheese, sauces, baked goods, etc. Available online currently and coming to stores soon!

Go Live Probiotic Water: comes in bottles or packets that you mix with water.

Earth Balance Coconut Peanut Butter. Need I say more? Absolutely delicious.

Rush Bowls: blended fruit + granola topping (sold frozen). Really yummy and a fun summer breakfast.

Naked Pizza:not your ordinary pizza crust – this one is made with all sorts of whole grains and probiotics!

Milk Makers: cookies to boost milk supply! (for Moms) :)

Avitae Caffeinated Water: yup.

Bar Gelato: Naia’s hand-crafted, artisan gelato in a bar form. Salted Caramel is ridiculous. (And the bar has less than 200 calories)!

Wildbrine: naturally fermented sauerkrauts and kimchi. The sauerkraut was amazing, and while I’m not normally a fan of kimchi, I liked this!

Have you found any interesting new products lately?

paleta review

Hi Friends! I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was busy packing, working and running last minute errands for our trip. I also saw Dr. Chase from the show House and it totally made my Saturday. Sometimes I feel like a 13 year-old girl. (He is SO cute!)

We are currently in Mexico, (probably on the beach, sorry) but I’ve got a few posts lined up for you while I’m gone. I’ll be back next week with some stories, pictures and hopefully a tan! ;)

I wanted to share more about my experience with Paleta with you all so here are my final thoughts! I’ll definitely miss it, it was wonderful!

  • 1,600 calories a day is a little low for me, so I went into it knowing that I would supplement it with more snacks (or chocolate) but I was usually surprised at how much food it seemed like. I did have to add in extra snacks every day.
  • the system is amazing – they drop off your cooler of food in the middle of the night – you wake up and have a day of food waiting for you
  • not having to pack lunches (especially on days when I don’t work at home) was AMAZING

  • restaurant quality meals for every meal felt like such a treat
  • the great balance of protein, fat, fiber and fruits or vegetables at every meal and snack!
  • every morning felt like Christmas – I couldn’t wait to see what was on the menu that day
  • fresh fruit, especially the berries! I am typically lacking in the fruit department and rarely buy berries for myself, they always felt like such a treat!
  • that you can let them know about food “dislikes” – I didn’t do this, but would next time

  • all of the packaging made me feel really guilty….it is recyclable, but maybe sometime soon they will use reusable packages for the individual meals
  • I had more money, it is expensive, but for the quality of food, definitely worth it (ranges from $46-$59/day)
  • they would label the foods that are organic so I would know how much of them are local/organic/etc.

Favorite Meals:

  • Spicy Shrimp Pizza
  • Honey Yogurt, Grapes, Berries, Veggie Sausages and Almonds (simple but SO perfect!)
  • Thai Chicken Salad
  • Lentil Burger Snack
  • Pan-fried Salmon Lunch
  • PALETA Energy Bite

Thank you PALETA for such a wonderful experience!

review: coconut water purity

I have a renewed obsession with coconut water.

But this isn’t any old coconut water. It’s Yoga Earth Coconut Water Purity which is a coconut water powder that comes in an individual serving making it portable without a need to refrigerate! (I don’t know about you but coconut water needs to be ice-cold!)

Mainly I drink it after a hot yoga class and I can tell how much it helps me re-hydrate. When I don’t drink coconut water, I’m really thirsty the rest of the day. When I drink a coconut water after class my thirst levels are normal. That is my scientific study. :)

  • that it is portable – I’ve been taking it to yoga to drink after class
  • it goes through airport security, so I was able to stay hydrated during holiday travel
  • the flavor – it is incredible!
  • that the strength can be altered depending on your preference

  • it was sold in stores! Right now, it can be purchased online or at various yoga studios

review: coconut chai green tea

Two days ago, I broke the glass pot to our coffee machine.

For the second time.

The Taster thinks I’m too rough with it, but I just think the glass is too fragile! Instead of panicking – we have an espresso maker anyway – I deemed it the perfect time to take a little break from coffee. I had a teeny headache yesterday, but green tea was a great replacement for my morning coffee ritual.

I’m a huge fan of Choice Moroccan Mint Green Tea, but Zhena’s Gypsy Tea Coconut Chai Green Tea is my new favorite. It’s a blend of green tea, cardamon, ginger, clove and tropical coconut that fills your mug with a delicious aroma and feels like a treat in every sip!

  • incredible flavor!
  • organic and certified fair trade
  • is a “sweeter” tea – good for afternoon sweet cravings
  • contains medicinal spices (ginger aids digestion and cinnamon heightens contentment)
  • you can buy in bulk or refills or tea bags for the canister off the website

  • $6.99 seems a bit steep, but if you do the math, it comes out to $.32 a tea bag which I can handle
Have you tried this brand or flavor of tea? What is your favorite? I need some new teas!
