updates: blog & life

Originally, this update was going to be just blog-related, but you know, life somehow sneaks in there sometimes!

Blog Updates:

2012 will bring a few changes to my site, and I’m really excited about them. I’ve been wanting to add a few new series and because most of my readers are looking for simple and healthy meal ideas and recipes, I’m going to move in that direction with some of my posts. I’ll also be adding more posts on how to easily incorporate healthy foods that you should be eating into your diet. Most people know what chia seeds are, but they have no idea why they are good for us and how to eat them. So…

New Series:

  • Add This: what, why and how you can add “the” food that you should be, into your diet!
  • Simple & Healthy: dinners that are nutritious, delicious, easy to make, and healthy! No fancy ingredients here, and not even so much recipes as dinner and meal ideas for busy people and busy young families.

I’ll be continuing with other fun recipes, daily eats, build it better posts and other random posts. As always, if there is something you want to see, let me know! I’m an email away: emily@anutritionisteats.com

Life Updates:

We are loving LA! I can’t get enough of the sun, the food, the culture, the ocean, the laid-back style… should I keep going?

Here are a few bullet point thoughts:

  • Making friends is like dating. Seriously.
  • Working from home is not conducive to meeting people.
  • I’m currently working with French Meadow Bakery in sales, and a few other food companies, helping with store demos, etc. I thought I would love working from home, but I’m realizing that especially in a new city, I’m itching to get out of the house. I’m not sure what will happen next in my career path!
  • Food. Amazing.
  • Healthy people are everywhere – it can be inspiring sometimes and sometimes, well, makes me feel guilty.
  • Trying to figure out what to do next in life is exhausting.
  • I’ve been LOVING the Nutrition consulting work I’ve been doing – it makes me realize I went into the right field! (Which at times, I need reminding).
  • I still haven’t ordered wedding prints. (I seriously need to focus, sorry Mom)!

So there you have it. Blog, LA and life in a nutshell. I hope you enjoy the new series!

I know what you mean about the making friends is like dating thing. It’s really hard for me to do right now because I have moved back home…all my friends are in different places. I am studying for my pt cert, so making friends isn’t easy when I am preoccupied studying all day! ahhhhh! I agree with the food thing to. Food. ah-mazing! Yum.

I had to post a comment when I saw your comment about the friend dating thing. You should definitely read “MWF Seeking BFF”. The book documents writer/reporter, Rachel Bertsche’s experiences on FIFTY TWO friend dates-something that she vowed to do after she moved to a new city and had trouble making girl friends. It’s hilarious (I am constantly laughing out loud and getting weird stares) and it’s filled with some pretty solid research on women and friendships. Glad you’re loving L.A.!

I JUST bought it!!! That is so funny. Literally 30 minutes ago. I saw it in some magazine and thought it would probably be a good one, I’m so glad to hear that it is good!

Glad you’re enjoying LA! I know what you mean about meeting friends- especially when you hit your mid-20’s, it gets so much harder. You’ll get there, though! And in the meantime, at least you never have to dig your car out of a snow drift. :)

oh Emily!! It feels my heart with joy that you’re loving LA! Not many people say that..they come and all they see is nasty traffic and weird people. I hope you have more updates on my favorite city! xD

Great ideas to add to the post. I always love hearing about new health foods, but I get confused on how to use them.

I totally agree that making new girl friends is like dating, it might even be worse! When I first moved to Memphis, I seriously felt like I was picking people up when I wanted to grab coffee or find a running buddy. There definitely weren’t as many healthy people in Memphis as there are in LA!

Loved the update – thanks for sharing some of your life too.

Finding friends is even more complicated when kids come around. You have to find a women you like whose husband yours likes AND THEN the kids have to get along. It’s a very low probability that all stars will line up…. although it doesn’t start being hard until the kids are old enough to have personalities and prefer certain kids. Not that you have to even remotely worry about that now – just giving you a heads up… :)
